Death of J. M. Dox
J. M. Dox, for several years past a resident of San Francisco, came to town Friday last for the purpose of sojourning at the residence of the editor of this paper a few days and thereafter continuing on his way to New York state, there to remain permanently among his relatives, with whom the editor is well acquainted.
Rapidly failing health and advancing years made the change desirable. But on his arrival it was noticed that the affection of his throat and lungs was much more serious than even he had supposed, and he died Tuesday morning last, immediately after leaving the door of his sleeping-room.
Death resulted in the same manner as in the case of James F. Oates, particulars of which were given in the Calistogian last week.
The funeral took place from the editor's residence today, between the hours of 10 and 11 a.m., Rev. H. H. Dobbins conducting the services.
The remains were buried in the Calistoga Cemetery.
Mr. Dox was a very quiet, unassuming man, pleasant, liberal and abstemious. His relatives at the East no doubt learned of his death with much sorrow.
