Born in Easingwold registration district, which spans the boundaries of the county of Durham and the North Riding of Yorkshire; quite possibly in the village of Alne, Hambleton parish, North Yorkshire

Son of the Reverend William Braithwaite and Laura Elizabeth {Pipon} Braithwaite; one of twelve children

Arthur Douglas Braithwaite and Marjory Walker Hendrie were married in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on April 18, 1888

His position as a senior manager with the Bank of Montreal took the family to Calgary, Alberta, where their two eldest daughters were born; to Hamilton, Ontario; and later to Montreal, Quebec

Arthur Douglas Braithwaite died aged 77 years, in his home at 26 Richelieu Place, Montreal. A funeral was held at Saint George's Anglican Church, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Montreal on April 13, 1934, and his body was transported to Hamilton Cemetery, Ontario, for interment next to his beloved wife Marjory
