Esther Fortna
Lifelong Sutter County resident, Esther Fortna (Forsythe), passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 19, 2012.

Born May 22, 1915 in the Sutter Buttes near Meridian, CA, she was the daughter of the late William and Mamie Meier. Esther graduated from Slough School and Sutter Union High School, and attended Sacramento State College.

She was a more than fifty year member and past president of the Native Daughters of the Golden West: founding and Honorary Life member of the Yuba City Parent- Teacher Association. Memberships in community service included; Sutter Methodist Church, Women of the Moose Lodge, Daughters in Retirement, Sutter County Memorial Museum, Boy Scouts of America, and Sutter County Historical Society.

Esther is survived by son and daughter-in- law, grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her brothers: William and Arthur Meier, who were drowned in the flood of 1955; sisters: Eva Johnson and Addie Meier, husbands: Vernon Fortna and Bruce Forsythe, sons: Larry Fortna and Stephen Fortna.

Visitation will be at the Ullrey Memorial Chapel on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutter Cemetery.
