Robert Hartley, a well known and highly respected citizen, died at his home near Carmichaels, Wednesday afternoon, June 9, aged 35 years. A week previous he had his left hand severely crushed when caught in a pulley. It was necessary to amputate the four fingers. He was getting along nicely when tetanus or lock jaw developed and this caused his death. Mr. Hartley was a son of Oscar and Laura Jane Flenniken Hartley, of Rices Landing, and was engaged in farming. He was united in marriage with Miss Anna Moredock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Moredock. Beside his wife and parents he leaves two daughters, Margaret and Sarah, and the following brothers and sisters: Edgar Hartley, of Carmichaels; William, Morgan and Thomas Harley, all of Rices Landing; Scott Hartley, of East Millsboro; Mrs. James Goslin, of Rices Landing; Mrs. I. K. Teal, of Pittsburgh, and Miss Sarah Hartley, at home. He was a member of the Hewitt Presbyterian church.
