He served in the 202nd Combat Engineer Battalion in the Army during World War II with the rank of surveyor technician 5th grade. He saw action in the European Theater which included Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe including the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Selinsgrove. He was a member of Lafayette Lodge #194 Free and Accepted Masons of Selinsgrove where he served as Worshipful Master in 1956. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite, Harrisburg Consistory, Snyder-Northumberland Country Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest No. 65, Sunbury, American Legion Post No. 25 including the Last Man's Club. Gerald was also a member of AARP, Kilowatt Craftsmen's Club, Pa. Society of Land Surveyors, Roosters Corner and Kreamer Rod and Gun Club.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, John C. and Robert L. both of Selinsgrove. One daughter Carol Ann of West Port, NH and one stepson William C. McLaughlin Jr. of Muncy and four stepdaughters, Darryl Ann Hetrick of Lewiston, Deborah Singer of Dillsburg, Sherry L. McLaughlin of Turbotville and Valerie J. Babb of Allentown, two brothers, Donald E. of Port Trevorton and Harry C. of Sunbury, one sister Ruth N. Bucher of Northumberland, 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, Gary R. and one daughter Linda K. one brother Charles O. and four sisters, Anna H. Ramsey, Thelma "Peggy" F. Painter, Verna M. Miller and Lois L. Reinard.
