Funeral services for Algot P. Aalgaard, Hannaford, ND, were held in Faith Lutheran Church in Hannaford. Interment was in the Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Hannaford. He died August 1, 2003 in Cooperstown (ND) Medical Center.
Algot Peter Aalgaard, Hannaford, ND, was born December 26, 1913, in Dover Township, near Hannaford, the son of Peter and Anna Christine (Stromme) Aalgaard. He attended school at the Skjelset, Michaelis, and Stromme Schools, where he graduated from the eighth grade in 1928. He was baptized and confirmed in Faith Lutheran Church in Hannaford.
Al worked on the home farm and other farms in the area. He joined the CCC's and served at Finland, MN, Jamestown, ND, Grand Marias, MN, and Kenmare, ND. He volunteered for the US Army in January 1941, and served as a medic in the Southwest Pacific during World War II.
Al married Bernice Fliflet on August 23, 1942, in Hannaford, ND. She lived in Hannaford while he served in the war. Upon discharge from the Army in October, 1945, Al returned to Hannaford where he worked for the Great Northern railroad from October, 1945, until June, 1959. He worked for Algot Lind as a mechanic and drove school bus for the Hannaford School through 1966. In 1967, he worked as a health maintenance engineer and bus driver for North Central School of Barnes County until he retired in 1977.
Al had a wonderful memory and loved to visit with people and reminisce about the good old days and his experiences during the war and about people he knew.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice, Hannaford, ND, two daughters, Claire (Gary) Swenson, Valley City, ND, and Ginger (Don) Oelrich, Sabin, MN; one son, Gerry (Jessica) Aalgaard, Dickson, TN, five brothers, Lief Aalgaard, Sacramento, CA, Sam (Vera) Aalgaard, Citrus Height, CA, Leonard Aalgaard, Chaska, MN, Albert Aalgard, Eureka, CA, and Robert (Gen) Aalgaard, Wilton, CA; one sister, Stella Larson, Eugene, OR; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
All was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and three sisters.
