Clyde Athey, 45, Passes Tuesday

Tuesday evening at the Ord hospital occurred the death after a long illness of Clyde Athey, 45, a well-known Ord farmer and dairyman. Funeral arrangements have not been made pending receipt of word from out-of-state relatives.
Mr. Athey was born Febr. 21, 1900 at Clay Center, Nebr., living there and at Nelson and coming to Valley county at the age of 12 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Athey. He had lived here ever since with exception of two years spent at Falls City. His marriage to Miss Bess Gates took place there on June 12, 1928.
For the past eight years Mr. Athey had lived on a farm north of Ord where he built up one of the finest milking herds in central Nebraska, being one of the largest butterfat producers of the Ord Cooperative Creamery association and selling whole milk to the Stewart dairy. This herd was dispersed a few weeks ago when Mr. Athey became fatally ill with cancer.
In earlier years Athey was an amateur baseball player of considerable fame and he was generally active in community affairs, popular with his neighbors and possessing a large circle of friends by whom he will be greatly missed.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his father, two brothers, Ralph, of Gold Hill, Ore., and Rueben, of Tekamah, and by a nephew, James Kucero, who lived in the Athey home.
