Sylvia J. Johnson passed away on July 20, 2014. Sylvia was born in Kake, AK February 21, 1936, to Penny and Daniel Kahklen. Sylvia moved to Hoonah at a very young age and raised by her grandparents, Walter and Minnie Obert.

She met her husband Sandy While working at the cannery in Hoonah. They moved to Juneau to have their first born. Later deciding to make Juneau their home.

Sylvia worked at AK Laundry then worked as an Night Custodian for Juneau Schools for many years.

Sylvia enjoyed many things. Loved fishing with her husband every summer, highlight was the Salmon Derby. Big gold medal fan! She loved going driving around and going towards the end of North Douglas and going walking! Loved anything to do with Seattle Super Sonics. She was also a wrestling fan!

Her favorite was holiday season. She would always be sure to have an abundant amount of candy to pass out during Halloween, couldn't wait for her family gathering around her table for Thanksgiving, especially loved decorating her big windows and home for Christmas. Her biggest pride and joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren,

She was preceded in death by her husband Sandy Johnson Sr., daughters, Sandra, Ernestine, and Marsha, son Sandy Jr., grand daughter Sylvia Kitajima.

She was survived by daughters Chris, Penny, Kathy, Bernandine along with grandchildren and great grand children and many numerous extended family.

Viewing will be Friday, August 1, at 5 to 7 pm, at Alaska Mortuary. Service will be Sunday, August 3, at T&H at 6pm.
