She married Russell Turner on 17 May 1955 in Vigo County, Indiana. There were no children from that marriage, but Russell became the beloved father figure to the Kirkham children.
Her obituary in the Terre Haute Tribune, April 23, 2014, relates that she was the former manager of Art Compton Cleaners and the former owner of The Gateway Café. She was a member of the North Terre Haute Women's Club; the Maplewood Christian Church Sunshine Club; Ladies of the Moose and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Turner; two sons, Jim and Larry Kirkham; one daughter, Jean Kellams; one brother, Bill Stewart; one sister, Maxine Clark, and a granddaughter, Kathy Kirkham.
She was survived by five grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
AN ASIDE: I had the immense pleasure of knowing this lady from the time of my early childhood when I lived across the street from her and family. Her eldest was a best childhood friend and I again made contact with them in my later life. I was elated to see her again in the summer of 2012 and again in 2013 for a post congratulations of her 100th birthday. A wonderful woman..., may she rest in peace.
