Virginia M. Delaney, 94, of Brookings, died on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the United Living Community in Brookings. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, Monday, August 4, 2014 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings, with a graveside service at 11:30am at St. Genevieve Catholic Cemetery in Lake Benton, MN. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm with a Liturgical Wake Service at 4:00pm on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings.

Mary Virginia Affolter was born on January 15, 1920 in Belle Plaine, Minnesota, the daughter of Emil and Susan (Soller) Affolter.

Virginia was a graduate of the Belle Plaine High School in 1938. She continued her education at Mankato State College where she received her teacher's certificate. After completing her education she was employed for several years in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. Virginia was united in marriage to Francis Dudley Delaney on June 19, 1948 in Minneapolis. After their marriage they lived near Lake Benton, Minnesota. Dudley died on July 29, 1973 in Hendricks, Minnesota. In 1976, Virginia moved to Brookings, South Dakota where she was employed for several years as a CC coordinator at St. Thomas More Catholic Church and later at Nielsen's Sixth Street Florist and as a tour guide.

She was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church the Ladies Guild, the Catholic Daughters, Schoenstatt Group, Hospital Auxiliary, FCE and the Art Museum. She enjoyed water exercises, bridge and spending time with her family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one infant twin sister.
