Evelyn Phoebus July 23, 1920 - July 29, 2014 ELKHART - Evelyn M. Phoebus, 94 of Elkhart, died Tuesday July 29, 2014. She was born July 23, 1920 in Mason Twp. (Cass Co.) Michigan to Stanley & Clemence (Trout) Cleveland. Evelyn graduated from Elkhart High School, Class of 1937 and then earned her nursing degree from Grant Hospital, Chicago IL, in 1941. She was a US Army veteran of WWII, as an Army Nurse serving with the 97th Evacuation Hospital in Great Britain, France & Germany. On May 26, 1946 she married Jack A. Phoebus in Roseland; Jack preceded her in death on June 18, 1999 after 53 years of marriage. Evelyn worked as a private nurse in Elkhart for many years and served on the Zoning Board for Ontwa Twp. in Cass Co. MI and was a member of the Samuel Felt Chapter of the DAR in Cassopolis. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jack A. Phoebus, Joshua C. Phoebus and Sharon Ann Phoebus. There are no services or calling in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy.
