WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Richard D. "Peck" Bonebrake, 85, of 314 Fairview Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Falling Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Aug. 16, 1915, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late George and Marie Barkdol Bonebrake.

He was a graduate of Waynesboro Area High School.

He was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Waynesboro as a sorter for more than 27 years. He received a citation for Service Beyond the Call of Duty.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Waynesboro and a former member of St. Paul United Church of Christ.

He was a member of Acacia Lodge 586 F&AM Waynesboro; Scottish Rite Masonry, Harrisburg Consistory; Zembo Temple; Waynesboro Shrine Club; Waynesboro Fire Dept.; Always There Hook and Ladder Co.; and the Junior Order of Mechanics.

He was chairperson of the AARP Ways and Means Committee; a member of Knights of Pythias; a driver for Meals on Wheels; volunteered with Easter Seals; was a counselor and vice counselor with the Lily of the Valley Council, Sons and Daughters of Liberty; a state counselor and associate counselor of the Pennsylvania Council, Sons and Daughters of Liberty; and a member of AARP Senior Olympics; Cubmaster Pack 29, Scoutmaster Troop 29 of Christ Methodist Church, Pow Wow staff, Boy Scouts of America Commissioners staff, Order of the Arrow and National Jamboree staff, and received every award given to adult Scouts including the Silver Beaver Award.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Bonebrake; a daughter, Rose Marie Bonebrake of Huntsville, Ala.; a son, Richard Bonebrake of York, Pa.; a sister, Mary Lou Hine of Huntsville; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, George T. Bonebrake; a sister, Virginia Ziegler; and a granddaughter.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery in Smithsburg.

Visitation will be held at Lochstampfor Funeral Home, corner of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro, Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, Handicap Van Ministry, 6 W. Second St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
