Jack was stationed on the USS West Virginia on 7 Dec 1941 in Pearl Harbor. Surviving that fateful day was transferred to a destroyer tender, the USS Dobbin and then a destroyer, the USS Phelps-DD-360, before he transferred to the USS Cushing - DD-376. Unfortunately, this ship was sunk when a Japanese plane crashed along the ship. He had enlisted on 30 August 1939 in New York, New York, NY.
