BIOGRAPHY:
Lilly Jane Tenney was born 6 May 1868 in Whitewater, Wisconsin; and died 14 Jul 1955 in Wadena, Wadena, Minnesota. She married Miles Davis Hocum 22 Mar 1888 in Marvin, Grant, South Dakota. He was born 16 Aug 1863 in Cambridge City, Wayne, Indiana; and died 21 Dec 1943 in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota.
Other suggested locations of Lilly’s birth and death includes may have been in Hot Springs, South Dakota; may have been born Marvin, South Dakota; may have died 1956. Lilly is listed as Mrs. Lilly Hocum in her father’s obituary 1910. She resided Minneapolis circa 1910; resided a short distance from South Dakota border, somewhat near town of Tenney, Minnesota.
In Memoriam published in Royal Neighbor of America monthly magazine dated Sep 1955 reads: “Word has been received of the death on July 14, last, of Mrs. Lilly Jane Hocum, Minneapolis, Minnesota, who served the Society faithfully for many years as a deputy. Mrs. Hocum was appointed a deputy Dec 9, 1920 and served continuously until her resignation because of ill health Dec 31, 1950. Her territory included the counties of Isanti, Morrison, Todd, Wadena and Anoka with the exception of Camp No. 7115 at Centerville. Camps 112 and 1010 in Minneapolis, 2702, Hopkins and 3203. Dayton also were under her jurisdiction.
Mrs. Hocum was born May 6, 1868. She was a member of camp No. 112, Minneapolis. Death occurred at a rest home in Wadena, Minn. The survivors include a son, Edgel T. Hocum and a daughter, Bessie L. Dilts. “Lilly died age 87 years. Family tradition recalls: “Lilly was an active member of Royal Neighbor of America and sold that insurance the latter years of her life; she traveled all over Minnesota doing that and directing what they called Royal Neighbor Camps a a somewhat civic minded organization.”
Family researchers Betty Peterson and Dorothy Campbell continued work to locate Other suggested date of Lilly and Miles marriage includes may have been 22 Apr 1888. Their ceremony was held in the home of Pastor W. D. Hills; attendants were Lizzie Davidson and Frank E. Tenney (2.2901), Lilly’s brother. They resided Twin Brooks, Grant, South Dakota. Lilly and Miles were buried at Oak Hill cemetery in Minneapolis; cemetery located at 58th and Lyndale.
