Died of asthma, at her residence in Laurens District, on the 20 of December 1855, Mrs. Hannah Higgins, consort of James B. Higgins, in the 72nd year of her age ...she had been a consistent member of the Baptist Church at Warriors Creek upwards of 50 years...a kind, affectionate wife, a tender mother (though she had outlived all of her children), a kind grandmother (having all her grandchildren under her care)...leaves a husband, 5 grandchildren, one brother, three sisters and many other relations and friends.

Haney was the daughter of Wlm. Higgins (b. ca 1740-d. after 1820) in Laurens; burial place unknown. Her mother was Mary Polly (Heddin?) Higgins.
