La Crosse - Dr. Anton Nelson, father of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gaylord Nelson, died Wednesday of a heart attack suffered as he attended the Democratic party's state convention here earlier in the month.
Dr. Nelson collapsed June 15, the second day of the convention addressed by his son, a state senator from Madison. The elder Nelson was rushed to St. Francis Hospital where he remained until his death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Clear Lake Methodist Church with burial in the village cemetery.
