Ivan C. Pederson, 96, died July 7, 2014 in Mesa, AZ.

He was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Ambrose, ND, to Christian Pederson, who had emigrated from Norway and established a homestead near Colgan, and Olephine (Monson) Pederson. He grew up on the family farm and after graduating from high school, he attended Minot Teacher's College before he was called to return home to work on the farm.

During his time in Minot, he met Mildred Landro, of Alamo, when they both sang in the church choir, and they were married July 30, 1941. They initially made their home in Ambrose, where for a time he served as mayor, moving to Crosby in 1961, and they raised four children.

After their children were grown, Ivan and Mildred began spending the winter months in Arizona. After Mildred's death in 1979, Ivan continued to farm the family homestead near Colgan and to spend winters in Mesa. For the past several years, he lived in Mesa year-round.

Ivan loved music and playing the organ. In earlier days, he sang at various church functions in Ambrose and Colgan, along with one or more of this three siblings, Lillian, Gordon and Clayton. He had been an avid curler, and he enjoyed playing cribbage and pinochle. He had many friends, and at the age of 96, his mind was still sharp.

Throughout the years, Ivan was a wonderful caring father and grandfather and he took great joy in his numerous great-grandchildren. The family rejoices in his long and rich life.

He is survived by his children: Gail (Douglas) Wigness, James (Donna Blevins), Phyllis (William) Ruzicka,; and Jean (John) Baumstarck; 12 granchildren: Joan Wigness Miller, Jeff Wigness, David Wigness, Ana Pederson Masterson, Seth Pederson, Brad Ruzicka, Sarah Ruzicka Scholz, Jill Ruzicka, Ivy Wonder Adamonsky, Gregory Swonder, Johnny Baumstarck, and Gina Baumstarck; 17 great-granchildren, including his namesake, Ivan Ruzicka and his dear frind of more than 30 years, Evelyn Scott, Edmonton, Alberta, who had also wintered in Mesa for many years.

Plans are being made to hold a memorial service in Mesa at a later date. Ivan's remains will be interred next to his wife, Mildred, at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in Crosby.
