William Clifton "Kit or WC" Baucum
February 17, 1886 - June 19, 1973

Entered Into Eternal Rest Tuesday, June 19, 1973

William Clifton Baucum, 87, of 1008 Betty Zane Road, died early Tuesday at Wheeling Hospital. He was born in Atlanta, Texas, Feb. 17, 1886, son of Matthew James and Mary Boozer Baucum. He was a Man of God. He was a canner by trade and was employed by various canneries of the country. He traveled to Canada and the northeast of the U.S. to repair canning machines. Sometimes, he was gone for weeks at a time. He said he couldn't have made a living like he did if it hadn't been for his wife taking care of things at home. He retired March 31, 1951 as an employee of Continental Can Co. He belonged to Masonic Lodge 248, AF & AM of Newark, Arkansas. He and his wife were some of the first settlers of Betty Zane Addition and was well known in surrounding communities. With the help of his wife and children, they built their home, farmed the land, and raised the animals. He spent time, when he wasn't working, making sure that a great garden, fruit trees, and any produce was growing for his wife to can and store up. He fixed big canning machines but he wasn't good at working on a car. He took pride in his home and property. He was a man who would help anyone in need. He loved and was proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He would hold them on his lap and tell them stories about the family. He would tell them about God and the kind of adults they should grow up to be. He worried about the kind of world they would grow up in. He looked out for his family, friends, neighbors, and complete strangers. He liked to hunt and fish. He loved God and his country. He was a man of integrity.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Corbin "Bill" Baucum; grandson, Robert Clifton Baucum; great-grandsons, Clifton James "Cliff" Baucum, William Christopher "Chris" Stanley; brothers, James Hampton "Hamp" Baucum, David Elton "Elton" Baucum, Daniel Richard "Dan" Baucum, Infant brother, Oran Robert "Oakie" Baucum; sisters, Carrie Elizabeth Baucum Meeks, Mary Ellen "Mae" Baucum Moffett
