Funeral services for Thomas "Tommy" Vaughn Gardner, Jr., 66, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 8, 2014, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Rev. Job Edathinatt and Rev. James Dominic officiating.

Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Tommy was called to the Lord Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Vaughn Gardner, Sr., and Mona Ticheli Gardner.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Susan Black Gardner; daughter, Robyn Johnson and husband Jimi; grandsons, Kolby Crew and fiancee' Cassie Clark, Hunter Varino and Jordan Johnson; great granddaughter, "Baby" Audrey; sister, Antoinette Ritter and husband Ed; brother Joseph T. Gardner and wife Polly; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and his sidekick, his cat Hershey; and grand dog, Kamey.

Tommy graduated from St. Frederick High School, University of Louisiana at Monroe with a bachelor's degree in Government and English Literature. He completed his education with a Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University School of Law. He retired from his position as City Attorney of The City of Monroe in 2007.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and the beauty of nature. He had a love of law, and his community. As a devout Catholic, God always came first. His love for his family was always evident. Each person had their own special connection with him. He never failed to tell everyone he loved them, but he never had to say it; everyone always knew. He loved fully and unconditionally with his whole heart and it was felt by every life he touched. His patience and compassion will never be forgotten. Although he left this earth way too soon, we are left with precious memories and an example of the kind of person we all should strive to be.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Nugent, Mike Bishop, Jr., Chad Bishop, Kyle Wingfield, Kody Fontana, and Kaleb Mondey. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bishop, Sr., Harvey Sweet, and Frankie Jungina.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a Vigil Wake and 6:00 PM, Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to Dr. Scott Barron and the entire staff at Oncology Associates.

Memorials may be made to The Wellspring.

As he would always say, "See ya later alligator…" After while crocodile.
