THIRD ARMY VETERAN IS BURIED HERE: BODY OF PVT. JOHNNIE HRUSKA RETURNED FROM EUROPE FOR REBURIAL
Pvt. Johnnie W. Hruska, veteran of General Patton's Third Army, who died from wounds received in battle in Germany, was re-buried here Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with full military honors. Sgt. Hugh A. Craighead of Fort Worth accompanied the body to Caldwell.

Born January 25, 1920, in the Frenstat community, Private Hruska entered the service January 12, 1942, and trained in the Medical Detachment at Camp Barkeley. He also received training in Louisiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and New Jersey before going overseas. He was serving with the Third Army and died in Germany May 11, only three days after victory in Europe was declared by President Truman and four days after the Germans had signed unconditional surrender papers. According to information from the war department at the time of his death, Johnnie had been wounded prior to cessation of hostilities and that he died from wounds received in the previous battle.

Johnny is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hruska, Frenstat, five sisters; Mrs. Julia Sparks, Mrs. Lydia Blaha, Mrs. Sophia Poehl and Mrs. Marie Ahrens of Houston, and Mrs. Annie Tydlacka of Dime Box. A sister, Mrs. Gus Knesek, passed away November 22, 1948.

Funeral services were held at the Harvey-Schiller Funeral Home with Rev. A.S. Broadus, chaplain, officiating. Campbell-Williams Post No. 4458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars were in charge of the service at the graveside. Interment was in the Masonic cemetery.

Pall bearers were Edward Varner, George Zavodny, Andrew Davis, Edward Charanza, Wm. Hudoc and Edmund Slovacek.
