William John Best was the youngest of the three children of Robert Ford and Mary Helen (Sutts) Best of Toledo, Ohio. The family lived at 627 Green Street; William was a student at Walbridge School.

He was tragically killed at age 15 in a traffic accident in Toledo.

His survivors included: His parents; a sister, Mary Bernice Best; a brother, Robert Edward Best; grandparents Ethel America (Ford) and John Henry Best all of Toledo, and grandmother, Mrs. Mary Sutts.

William was the gr-grandson of William Jesse and Mary Jane (Conde) Ford of Hartford City, Indiana. He was the gr-gr-grandson of Dr. James and America Ford of Wabash, Indiana.
