RAPID CITY- M. Arlene Bouzek, 84, formerly of Highmore, SD and most recently of Hot Springs, SD, passed away August 8, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Arlene was born January 14, 1930 in Wessington Springs to Charles and Mary Grover. She was the fifth of nine children.
She attended rural Highmore Schools. Her freshman year was spent at Mount Marty in Yankton, SD. She completed her education at Highmore High School.
Arlene married Durwood Bouzek on June 30, 1948 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stephan, SD. They farmed on the family farm north of Highmore for 44 years. Together they raised five children. Arlene was an active farm wife, raising geese, ducks, chickens, and a big garden.
She was active in 4-H with her children, treasurer of the Eden Township Board for many years.
She also taught Catechism classes and was active in Catholic Daughters of America in her church. When the youngest of her children entered high school, she started working at the Highmore Nursing Home.
In 1992, they sold the farm and moved to an acreage just east of Rapid City.
She worked at the Beverly Health System Nursing Home in Rapid City.
She remained active in Catholic Daughters at St. Therese Catholic Church. Arlene enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and woodworking projects with Durwood.
In 2006, Arlene and Durwood moved to Fitzmaurice Veteran's Home in Hot Springs.
