Mrs. Ralph Root, nee Bessie Elizabeth Ginger, the daughter of John and Abbie Cooper Ginger, was born in O'Brien County on December 16, 1885, and passed away May 15, 1957, at the hospital in Hartley, Iowa, at the age of 71 years, 4 months, and 29 days after a very short illness.
As a child Mrs. Root attended the rural schools of O'Brien County and has made her home in O'Brien County most of her life.
She was united in marriage to Ralph Root on September 10, 1902, at Spirit Lake, Iowa. All of their married life had been spent on farms with the exception of the last 10 years during which time they lived in Moneta, Iowa. To this union were born 8 children of who m two preceded her in death, namely John and Charles, both in infancy.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph; five daughters; Mrs. Abbie Richardson of Sheldon, Myrtle (Mrs. Alfred Otte) of Calumet, Viola (Mrs. Wm. Schierholz) of Peterson, Esther (Mrs. Norman Jipson) of Graceville, Minn., Lila (Mrs. Irwin Baysinger) of Chokio, Minn.; one son, Floyd of Sutherland; a sister, Mrs. Dolly Matheson of Spencer; three brothers, Dave Ginger of Everly, John and Dick Ginger of Sutherland; 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives
