Alternate last name spelling of St Clair

According to an edit received April 22, 2024, George was is in the cemetery records with his last name spelled Saint Clair. This would be an incorrect entry as our family was never known as Saint Clair.

Born George Washington SINCLAIR in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana to Horatio Sinclair and Mary Polly Sanders/Saunders of Crawford, Orange and Dubois Counties, Indiana. Horatio and his family moved back to Hall Township, Dubois County along the Patoka River where they lived out their days.

Brother of Mary Ann, Sarah Marinda, Caroline Elizabeth and William Horatio.

On April 5, 1866 George married the widow Phoebe Stiles Rosecrants in Perry County, Indiana and they were the parents of a daughter Lena. Lena died in Perry County at the age of two. Her place of burial is unknown at this time.

The 1900 census also shows that Phoebe gave birth to eight children, but only one was living in 1900. There is no evidence as to who the father of these children was, when they died or where they are buried, except Lena.

George was step-father to Phebe's son John R. Rosecrants/Rosecrantz, whose father had been killed in the Civil War.
