Ed was born July 8, 1950 in Salina, Kansas to Emerson E. & Leahdele (Hoyt) Cassel.
He graduated from Hastings High School and received his degree in automotive technology, and later earned a second degree in computer technology/data processing.
Ed married Mary (Brouillette) Brannigan; they later divorced.
He served in the U.S. Army from January 3, 1971 until September 15, 1972.
Ed worked in the maintenance office at Central Community College and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Four Rivers Sportsman Club, and the National Rifle Association.
Hastings resident, Edward E. “Ed” Cassel, 64, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Ed was preceded in death by his step-son, Sean P. Brannigan; two sisters, Jeanine Cassel and Carol Cauley; and his mother, Leahdele Cassel.
He is survived by Amber Brannigan (wife of Sean P)& daughter Naomi –Lincoln, NE; Aaron M. Brannigan – Hastings, NE; Ryan & Dawn Brannigan & Mercy – Holdrege, NE; brother & spouse: Dr. Stan & Andi Cassel – Kearney, NE; sister & spouse, Ruth & Gerald Hohnstein – Centennial, CO; father, Emerson Cassel - Hastings, NE; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1-8 pm, Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the funeral home, 1225 N. Elm Ave Hastings, NE with family present from 5-7 pm, and one hour prior to service at the church. Funeral services will be Monday, August 11, 2014; 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar providing words of comfort. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
