Of Crofton, MD, on August 8, 2014, 90 years old, at Mandrin Hospice House.

He was born April 4, 1924, in West Frankfort, son and third child to John Marion and Mary Ann (Buster) Ray.

He married the former Marilyn Jean Sullivan on March 19, 1955 in College Park, Maryland. She passed away August 4, 1996.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan M. Freer and her husband Joseph, of Hopewell, PA and Pamela Jean Owings and husband Brian, of Crofton, Maryland. There are four grandchildren, Lindsey Borges and husband Greg in Crofton, Maryland, Ray Foster of Somerset County, Pennsylvania , Amanda Dick and her husband Kyle in Duncansville, PA and Katelynn Nesbit and her husband Sam in Roaring Springs, PA There are five great grandchildren, Gregory and Charles Borges, Hailey and Juliana Nesbit and David Isaiah Dick.

In addition there is his brother's widow Bernadine Ray and two nieces Patricia Cottingham and Bettie Fay.

He served 25 years in the United States Army. He survived the Korean War, being a Prisoner of War in World War II, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Rd. Bowie, MD 20715. A Funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
