Ms. Betty Jean Ausburne Atkins age 85 of Mt. Airy, NC passed away Monday morning,August 11, 2014 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born December 8, 1928 in Surry County to the late Thomas Clayborn and Ella Mae Doss Ausburne. Mrs. Atkins was retired from Proctor/Silex and was a homemaker. She was a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and a son-in-law, Susan and David Poore of Mt. Airy, two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Yvonne Atkins of Lowgap, Richard “Tony” and Crystal Atkins of Mt. Airy, grandchildren and spouses, Jonathan and Jennifer Simmons of Mt. Airy, Shannon and Bill Mayer of Clemmons, Holley Atkins and fiancé, Lee Snow of Mt. Airy, step grandchildren and spouses, E.J. and Tiffany Poore of Pilot Mountain, Sherry and Perry Scott of Dobson and Ali Bingman of Mt. Airy, great grandchildren, Jake Simmons, Sophia Mayer and Katie Mayer, and step great grandchildren, Addison Poore, Aiden Poore, Courtney Scott, Kayla Scott, Will Mayer, Zack Mayer and Brad Mayer, a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Leroy Collins of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Poore, and three brothers, Raymond, Haywood and Robert Ausburne. Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Oakdale Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Dr. Craig Edwards. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home 12:30 pm Wednesday until time for Mrs. Atkins to be taken to the cemetery for the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
