Darrell the husband of Donna S. Bratton of Pottsville Arkansas, the son of Dwane Bratton and Lydia S. Bratton of Russellville Arkansas enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 21 1967 in Little Rock AR. He arrived in Vietnam on February 6 1968 where he was assigned for duty and served with Company F, 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

Throughout the month of May the Battalion continued with assigned combat operations in Quang Nam and Thua Tien Provinces participating in Operation HOUSTON as a security force. A Marine patrol on May 22 tripped a hostile anti-personnel mine in the vicinity of the Lang Ong Ngu village complex, and the explosion killed two men. PFC Darrell Bratton was one of the casualties, killed by the fragmentation wounds he sustained.
