Hazel Schneider, 92, of New Ulm died Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm. The Christian Mother’s will pray the rosary at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral.
Hazel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Sellner of Round Rock, Texas, Linda and Bob Mertz of New Ulm, Sue and Bruce Provo of Rochert; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Becky Schneider of New Ulm, Terry and Kate Schneider of Edina, Doug and Auralie Schneider of Oxford, Massachusetts, Kevin and Patty Schneider of Sleepy Eye, Dan and Mary Schneider of Woodbury; twenty nine grandchildren; thirty six great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley Schneider on January 23, 2003; daughter and son-in-law, Diane Sjobeck on December 2, 2004 and Gerry Sjobeck; and brothers, Clarence, Leo and Francis Gleisner.
Hazel C. Gleisner was born on November 25, 1921 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to Joseph and Anna (Kuehn) Gleisner. On June 17, 1941 she was united in marriage to Stanley Schneider at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They farmed in New Ulm until 1997. Hazel had been the head of the New Ulm Food Shelf for several years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, playing cards and bingo, and praying the rosary with her ladies prayer group in New Ulm. Hazel was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, and the Christian Mother’s Society. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, N.U.A.C.S. or the American Cancer Society. www.mvfh.org.
