Gussie Koon Slocum, age 89, a resident of Ft. White, Columbia, Florida, died 21 Feb 2006 at the Avalon Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lake City,Columbia, Florida. Gussie was the daughter of the late Jefferson Davis and Hattie Williams Johnson. Although she was born in Gilchrist County, she lived almost her entire life in Ft. White, Columbia, Florida. She is preceded in death by two husbands, Elmer Koon, and Jesse Slocum; two sons, Bill Koon, Sr. and Kenny Koon; one grand-son, Keith Koon; a son-in-law, Aubrey Dale Thornton; and one great-grandchild, Blake Arnett. Gussie was a member of the Burlington Santa Fe Church of Christ located on Hwy 27 between Ft. White and Branford in Suwannee County, Florida. Survivors include one daughter, Elmira Thornton of Ft. White, FL.; two sons, Tom (Dede) Koon of Ft. White and Bob (Rosa) of Ellisville, Fl., and one daughter-in-law, Betty D. Koon of Ft. White,FL. Nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive.
