Robert R. López, age 66, a resident of Belen, peacefully passed away at home, after a short battle with cancer, on Monday, Feb. 20, surrounded by his loving family.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Los Chavez where he served as a deacon. He served in the Woodmen of the World as a trustee. Robert was a devoted and loving husband, father, Pampa, brother, uncle, and friend.

He enjoyed camping, working at his home and most of all spending time with his family. Robert spent most of his free time chasing down his grandkids and attending their numerous activities. He was also proud of the married life he and Lydia shared for nearly 46 years. If Robert wasn't spending time with his family, then he was spending time with his beloved church family. He loved life to the fullest and was a devout servant to his Lord.

Robert was preceded in death by his son, Bobby López; son-in-law, Dennis Butcher; parents, Manuel Q. and Placida López; parents-in-law, Jesus J. and Albina Chavez; brother, Ben R. López; and sisters, Esther Reynolds, Flora Benavidez and Dolores Baca.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lydia C. López; sons, Ben and his wife, Pat, of Las Cruces, James and his wife, Amy, of Belen; daughters, Virginia "Gina" Butcher of Barstow, Calif., Arlene Martinez and her husband, Edmundo, of Las Cruces, Valerie Yoakum and her husband, Dan, of Belen, Evelyn Lopez-Chavez and her husband, Joseph, of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Jena Silva, Megan Chavez, Kristina Martinez, Bobby Silva, Justin López, Amanda Martinez, Timothy Butcher, Samantha Moore, Morgan Chavez, Chelsea López, Allison Moore, Danielle Yoakum, Emilee López, Abby López, DaKota Yoakum, Noah Butcher, Mara López, Joseph Chavez, Jude López and Maesyn López. He is also survived by his brothers, George and Manuel Bustamante; and sisters, Grace Griego, Carmen Lopez, Berna Martinez and Betty Silva.

Donations can be made in Robert's memory to First Baptist Church of Los Chavez. Services will be held at two sites. Viewing will be at the First Baptist Church of Los Chavez on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A final visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Belen on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.

Interment will take place at Terrace Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons, Ben López and James López, sons-in-law, Joseph Chavez, Edmundo Martinez, Dan Yoakum, and grandson Justin López. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
