Mr. James Michael Fortanascio, 80, of Fort Mill, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Lancaster Convalescent Center in Lancaster.

The memorial mass was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at St. Philip Neri Church, with Rev. Dr. Joseph Pearce, C.O., Vicar officiating.

Born in Cliffside Park N.J., Mr. Fortanascio was a son of the late Michael James Fortanascio and Julia Bodan Fortanascio. He was retired from Therma-Kem in Rock Hill and attended St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. He was active member and a former three term president of Ashbrook Villas Homeowners Association. He was active with the Little League in Palisades Park, N.J. and played professional baseball for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1956,

Surviving are his wife, Jackie Kurzel Fortanascio; three sons, Don DeLeonard of Fort Mill, David DeLeonard of Jacksonville, N.C. and Michael Fortanascio of Oradell, N.J.; three daughters, Linda Urcioli of Tuxedo Park N.Y., Lori Bauer of Hackensack, N.J. and Barbara Fortanascio of N.J.; his sister, Julia Tracey of Old Tappan, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
