Mrs. Ida Inez Unfus, 74, 0f 40 South Street, died Monday, September 5, 1983 in Cuba Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born on June 18, 1909 in Belfast, she was the daughter of Frederick Gregory and Inez Eliza Crawford Barringer. On April 16, 1933, in Farmersville, she was married to Stephen Unfus, who predeceased her on August 25, 1972.
A resident of Belfast most of her life, Mrs. Unfus was a graduate of Belfast High School and Geneseo Normal College, and had taught in area schools, including Sandusky, Rushford, and Rochester. Mr. and Mrs. Unfus had also owned and operated a trucking business in Belfast for many years.
During the past few years she had delivered meals for the Allegany County Department of the Aging, and was an avid bingo player.
Mrs. Unfus was a member of the Belfast United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women; a member of the Eastern Star, Bartlett Chapter 411 of Belfast; Allegany Past Matrons and Patrons; local, county, and state National Grange, and was a ten-gallon American Red Cross blood donor.
Surviving are a son, Stephen Unfus of Macedon, New York; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Asselin and Mrs. Carleton (Marie) Nix, both of Belfast; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Murkin Funeral Home 65 Main Street on Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 1983, at 2 p.m. The Reverend Alan Jones, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Belfast, will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Belfast.
Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Belfast or to the Allegany County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
