Six bodies, relatives of the family of Thomas Kennedy, Maryland's pioneer poet, author and statesmen were exhumed at the old Presbyterian graveyard, rear of the First Christian Church yesterday and reinterred in the family lot at Rose Hill Cemetery by C.M. Suter & Sons, undertakers. The bodies were all in a fine state of preservation considering that some of the persons have been dead 100 years. A coincidence was that Hugh Kennedy, son of John and Margaret Kennedy, died on May 12, 1813 - just 100 years ago yesterday. The bodies taken up yesterday were:
MARGARET KENNEDY, died May 30, 1818
JOHN KENNEDY, Born June 3, 1767 - Died April 27, 1847
HUGH KENNEDY, Died May 12, 1813
JOHN WAGNER, Died Nov. 24, 1831, aged 83 years
His wife, SARAH WAGNER, Died July 13, 1832, paged 81 years
JAMES FERGUSON, Died March 24, 1832, aged 79 years
The bodies of Thomas Kennedy, wife and daughter will be taken up within the next several days and reinterred in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The movement for the erection of a monument to Thomas Kennedy by members of the Jewish race, stated by I.S. Kahn, is growing. The Kennedy graves are near the fence of the graveyard lot. Vines and weeds abound there as elsewhere.
