John came to America with his father, 5 brothers & 5 sisters from Aiglish, Tyone County, Ireland in 1719
He married Bridget Carroll 1738 in Hanover County, Virginia, on the last day of the year 1773 John and other members of the Heard family to settle on site (one mile from where Washington, Wilkes County, Georgia is today) and on new year's day 1774 they began Cutting down the first trees to build a stockade fort it was called Fort Heard.
