Ed was born Aug. 30, 1947, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Edward F. Kern and Rose M. Kern. As a young boy, his family moved to Missoula. He attended grade school at Roosevelt and high school at Missoula County High School.
Upon leaving high school, he joined the Marine Corps and spent a year of duty in Vietnam. After completing four years of service with the Marine Corps, he received an honorable relase and returned to Missoula. He helped in his father’s business, Kern’s Cleaning Service. He spent several years trying to find his place in the world. He spent time in Yakima, Washington; Seattle; and Albuquerque, New Mexico, before returning to live in Missoula. He enjoyed giving to the community.
A service will be held at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery. "Semper Fi Marine"
