He was a lifetime resident and was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church. Mr. Matthews was a 1933 graduate of Columbia High School and was US Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Matthews received a World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, and an Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal.
He was predeceased by his brothers, James and Jaye Matthews.
