James R. Hollingsworth was the son of John Tyler and Susannah Hollingsworth born on April 11, 1815 in Pickensville, South Carolina. James married Elizabeth Sullivan on July 12, 1846 in Jacksonville, Alabama. James and Elizabeth had eleven children (according to the 1900 census), but only three are known of at the time, Joseph Clark Hollingsworth, Stephen Mack Hollingsworth, and Sarah W. Hollingsworth. Joseph married Lenora Hasaltine Atkins, Stephen married Zilla Ann Nabors, Sarah married Henry M. Nabors.
