It was in answer to a simple request of love that God placed in the arms of George Torrison and Christina Thompson an infant son on the 13th day of February in the year of our Lord 1912 at Valders. But realizing that this new life entrusted to their care needed God's continued guidance and strength, they had Sylvan baptized at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on the 17th day of March in the same year of our Lord 1912. Sylvan grew up in Valders, attending its schools. He graduated with the Valders High School Class of 1930.
Sylvan and Monica Ryan were joined in marriage on the 24th day of July in the year of our Lord 1933 filling a further loneliness in his life. Their marriage was blessed with 3 children, a son James, 2 daughters Joan and Jean. Sylvan worked at a number of trades including roofing, road construction, farming, operating a number of taverns and from 1959 until his retirement, Torrison Clover farm Grocery Store in Valders.
He was a member and past president of the Valders Lion Club, a former Village of Valders Trustee, a member of the Manitowoc Eagles Aerie, past treasurer of Faith Lutheran Cemetery Board, a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he had held many various positions in the church and on its Council.
And so at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 24 days, our Lord saw fit to call to himself, our brother Sylvan. He suffered a heart attack on Sunday, March 28. On Thursday, April 1 he had successful open heart surgery. But he suffered a stroke either during the surgery or right after surgery and never regained consciousness following the surgery.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife Monica....2 daughters and sons-in-law Joan and Reinhard Grimm and their children, Perry & Cindy Grimm, Candy & Dan Rathsack, Penny & John Ourada, Curt & Julie Grimm, Stacey Grimm, and Shelly & Mark Reinemann. DAUGHTER Jean & James Rathke and their children Jolene, Jessica and Jason Rathke; and his son's children, Anna & Darrell Behnke, Daniel Torrison and Dean Torrison; AND 12 great grandchildren. He is further survived by 1 brother and sister-in-law, Hartley & Lola Torrison; and 4 sisters in-law: Lillian Torrison, Gertrude Torrison, Alice Ryan and Helen Ryan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Sylvan had come to know the sting of sin in death with the passing of his son James, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
