Robert D. Wester, age 80, a resident of 1406 N. Second St., Manitowoc, entered into eternal life on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Bob was born on Sept. 14, 1926, in Manitowoc, to the late Walter and Elva Zettel Wester. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1945. Following his graduation, Bob enrolled in the U.S. Army and served overseas in Germany during World War II. On Oct. 21, 1950, Bob married Dolores Wagner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Dolores preceded Bob in death on May 31, 1995. On April 25, 1998, Bob married Nancy Atwell at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Bob was co-owner of Wester Service Garage with his brother Jack. During the '50s and '60s, he raced stock cars at the 141 Speedway, where he held records for many years. He served the Coast Guard Auxiliary as a charter member for over 35 years, and was a past division captain and flotilla commander. Bob also worked for the Burger Boat Company, and later retired from there in 2005. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycling, boating, and spending time with Nancy at their cottage in Spring Lake. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi in Manitowoc, and also VFW Otto-Oas Post 659. Bob is survived by his wife: Nancy, Manitowoc; a son: Don Wester, Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter: Maribeth Wester, Milwaukie, Ore.; a brother: Cal (Carol) Wester; 2 sisters-in-law: Violet Wester and Dorothy Wester Krause; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends surviving. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dolores; and his brothers Jack and Bill. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, from 5 until 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Sister Michael Majeskie. The visitation will continue on Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand Avenue from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Rev. David Hoffman will officiate with burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be accorded by VFW Otto-Oas Post 659. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
