Funeral services for Elsie Elizabeth Hunsinger, 88, Lawrence, were held 10 a.m. Monday, February 6, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. She died February 1, 2012 at Bridge Haven in Lawrence.

Elsie was born December 31, 1923 in Douglas County, KS the daughter of George W. and Mary J. (Seele) Hunsinger.

She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1942. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 8 years. She also worked for Farmers Cooperative Association and in the office at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She then returned to the family farm South of Lawrence and farmed in partnership with her brother, Walter until retirement in 1999.

Elsie was a Democrat Committee Woman for East Wakarusa and a former member of the Fairview W.S.C.S. Missionary Society. She also served as secretary for the Douglas County Democrat Central Committee and was also a secretary for Northeast Kansas Library Association. She was an avid gardener.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Genevieve Hunsinger and Betty Clark; nephews, George M. Hunsinger, Carl & Tim Hunsinger, Russ & Roger Tuckel, Dan & Brett Radcliff, Steve Seibolt, and George & Mike Raab, nieces, Carol Cheney, Marilyn Mitchell, Jan Schelle, Patti Smith, Mary Lea Spencer, Justin Davis, Michelle Caldwell, Debbie Nellis; and her Registered Nurse, Linda Kaizer. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George E., Walter and Carl Hunsinger; six sisters, Clara Johanning, Dora Tuckel, Helen Seibolt, Ann Radcliff, Esther Raab, and Frances Hunsinger.

The family greeted friends Sunday from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggested memorials in her name to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association – Greater KC Area or Douglas County 4-H Foundation and sent in care of the mortuary.
