Just before their marriage Eugene was required to register for the draft during the World War. He did so on September 12, 1918 when he was 32 years old. From his draft registration card we learn that he was employed as a clerk for the Farnsworth Hoyt Company at 1000 Washington, Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Amsden gave Lena's name as his nearest relative and prematurely said she was his wife. Their home address was the same as above at Allston. His birth date was entered as November 26, 1884 even though the year on his birth record is clearly 1885. The registrar jotting down all his information described Eugene as having medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair. He wasn't missing any limbs or an eye that would have disqualified him from serving in the military.
Lennie passed away at the age of 53. Her death notice, printed in the Boston Herald, noted her home address was 1384 Commonwealth Avenue in Allston, Massachusetts.
Census information:
1880 at Winchendon, MA: Edward F. Potter, 37, machinist; wife, Maria, 31; and daughters, Amy F., 11, and Lemie M., 4.
1920 at 5 Idlewild St. in Allston, MA: Eugene Amsden, 35, clerk in the steel industry; wife, Lennie M., 41 (actually 43), public schoolteacher; and mother-in-law, Maria A. Potter, 70.
