Betty Harlan Harrison
August 8, 1919 - May 15, 2014

Betty Harlan Harrison passed away peacefully on May 15, 2014, at her home in Stockton.

Betty is survived by her children: Gene Harrison, Fresno; Pat Fluetsch, Stockton, Russ (Sandy) Harrison, Modesto, and Steve (Donna) Harrison, Hendersonville, North Carolina. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Chris Fluetsch (Erika Kegel), Sarah Gehrke (Ed), Nick, Chris, Jesse (Melanie) and Evan Harrison, and four great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by two cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was loved and admired by friends and family for her positive outlook, sense of humor, and words of support and encouragement. She was interested in and supportive of all the activities of her family members. She and Al liked to travel and visited Japan, Majuro, Hawaii, Mexico City, Europe and many National Parks in the United States.
She was born Betty Lucile Harlan, on August 8, 1919, in Santa Cruz to Leroy and Ada (Harrison) Harlan.

Betty grew up in Riverdale, California, on the family ranch homesteaded in 1860. She was proud of her Harlan ancestors who came to America in 1687 and her great-grandfather who lead the Harlan Party overland to California in 1846.
After graduating valedictorian from Riverdale High School in 1937, Betty attended UC Berkeley and Fresno State College, where she graduated with a BA in business. At Fresno State, she met Albert "Al" Harrison. They were married in Fresno in 1942. Betty and Al moved to Stockton in 1997.

Al passed away in 2003.

In 1955 she began her career as a secretary for lawyers and insurance companies in Fresno. She retired in 1984 as an insurance adjuster.

The family is grateful to the staff and residents of Emeritus (Carson Oaks) in Stockton for their assistance and friendship over the past 11 years. We also want to thank Hospice of San Joaquin for their support during our mother's final days.

A private service will be held at a later date. The family asks that contributions be made to either The Harlan Family in America, P.O. Box 284, Lionville, PA 19353, or Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95204.
