Evelyn Althea (VanKleek) Barrett Hutchins

Evelyn Althea Hutchins, age 83, a lifetime Lapeer resident, went to be with her Lord on Sunday August 10, 2014. Evelyn was born on December 15, 1930 to Walter and Alice (Heusted) VanKleek. Evelyn worked for Dr. John Thompson for over 35 years, at Dale's Health Store and at the First Baptist Church of Lapeer, where she was a member.

Evelyn married Walter Barrett in August of 1982, he preceded her in death in 1986. She married William Hutchins in August of 1992, he preceded her in death in 2003. William and Evelyn spent years wintering in Zephyrhills, Florida. They attended Settler's Rest Church, where Mrs. Hutchins sang in the choir for 12 years. They both enjoyed shuffleboard and won several tournaments together. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Alice VanKleek; and sister: Marjorie Alice Roberts. She is survived by 5 step-children; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Oregon, Arizona, Minnesota and Michigan; also special friends: Joe and Jennifer Kaltz of Lapeer and Vicki and Gerald Morse of Lapeer.

Visitation for Mrs. Hutchins will be 4-8 PM Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Evelyn's funeral service will be 11:00AM Thursday at Muir Brothers, Pastor Arnold Bracy and Pastor Ross Shannon officiating, with burial to follow in Arcadia Township Cemetery.
