With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved sister, sister-in-law, aunt and godmother, Genevieve Marie (Francis) Bernard passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, in the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Born on Mar. 12, 1947, in Enfield, she was a daughter of the late Noel Andrew and Helen (Googoo) Francis. Originally from Eskasoni, Genevieve worked for Waycobah Home Care for numerous years until she retired, then started enjoying her favourite pastimes which was playing cards, double up, bingo and most of all, visiting family and friends. Her greatest hobby was making Christmas wreaths during the winter before Christmas. She also enjoyed her company with her beloved dog, Homer. She will be sadly missed by her beloved friends, Isabell and Ricky.
Genevieve is survived by her sisters, Annie Jane (Camillus) Alex; Shirley Francis; brothers, Edmond Francis and Charles Francis; brother-in-law, Howard Poulette, all from Eskasoni; sisters-in-law, Annie (Raymond) Googoo; Janet Bernard; Madeline Bernard; Elizabeth Bernard, Waycobah; Mary Catherine (Ben) Piero, Wagmatcook; brothers-in-law, Louis Joe (Alex) Bernard; Gilbert Bernard; Charles Jr. Bernard and John L. (Darla) Bernard, all from Waycobah. She had numerous nieces and nephews and godchildren.
Genevieve was predeceased by her husband, Frank Louis Bernard; brother, Frankie Francis; sisters, Mary Theresa (Francis) Denny and Nanny Mom, Deloris Elizabeth (Francis) Poulette; mother-in-law, Mary Rose (Smith) Bernard; father-in-law, Charles J. Bernard; brothers-in-law, Bernie Denny and Ben Bernard.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday Aug. 18, in the Multi Purpose Building, 160 Reservation Rd., Waycobah First Nation. Genevieve will then be transferred to the Gabriel Centre in Eskasoni, where she will rest after 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Eskasoni with Father Martin MacDougall officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
