James was born in Rockford, Illinois, to parents Robert and Edna Marker. He graduated from Auburn Senior High School where he was active on the Swim Team. He then worked with his father at Stearns Fixture Company where he installed grocery store equipment for 25 years. He began farming in the Town of Scott, near Webster, Wisconsin while still living in the Rockford area. He moved to his farm about 20 years ago and continued farming until 2012. He was a collector of many things which lead him to opening Marker Antiques in 2011. He enjoyed going to auctions, collecting almost anything, and was a member of the Old Sleepy Eye Pottery Collectors Club for 39 years, serving as a board member for the past 4 years. He was also a member of the Wooden Nickel Coin Club in Siren, serving as Secretary for the past 2 years.
James is survived by his mother Edna of Rockford, IL, Fiancé Mary Jane Pahos of Webster, WI, brothers and sisters: Robert Marker of Rockford, IL, Lanette Bucher of Rockford, IL, Carl (Mary Anne) Marker of Aurora, IL, Brett Marker of Webster, WI, 4 nephews, 4 nieces, 11 great nephews and nieces, and many other extended family members.
James is preceded in death by his father Robert.
Funeral services for James Marker will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 3pm, at the Scalzo Taylor Chapel in Spooner with Pastor Gil White officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Funeral Home from 1-3pm. A graveside service and interment will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014, at 1pm, at the Oakland Cemetery in Freeport, IL.
