Nicole Lynn Clark, 9, of Erie, died Nov. 17th in Lafayette, CO. A Celebration of Nicole’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sat. Nov. 27th, First United Methodist Church of Boulder, 1421 Spruce St., Boulder. A reception will follow the service at the church.

Our Angel-Horse, Nicole Lynn Clark left this earth and flew to heaven on November 17th.

She was born in Boulder where she spent her entire life. She loved to run out the back gate to the large park behind her house. Nicole loved to skateboard or ride her bike around the path surrounding the park, play on the swings and fly kites on the large grassy field. One of her favorite games was “Groundsies” which she would play with her dad and friends.

Nicole was expanding her love of sports and played soccer with the Wild Cats.

When not at home, she could be found riding ATV’s, snowmobiling and boating on Grand Lake; or skiing, sledding and ice skating.

Nicole’s fourth grade autobiography states that she loved her family very much. She was proud of all the places she had traveled to, but especially loved Hawaii, Mexico and her cruise ship adventures. She was always playing in the waves. One of her dreams was to become a singer and there was barely a moment that went by without a song. She played guitar and her favorite artist was Taylor Swift. Nicole favorite color was purple. Special moments for he were playing word games in the hot tub with her dad and out singing him at Rock Band.

Nicole attended Heatherwood Elementary School as a fourth grader and had attended since Kindergarten. Nicole had too many friends to list and many of them were considered “best friends”. Nicole’s friends used her name to spell out that she is “Nice, Interesting, Cool, Over the Top, Loveable and Extra Kind.” She always had a smile on her face and was the first to run up and give you a hug. Once you met Nicole, she was your friend for life.

Nicole died along with her mother the night of Nov. 17, 2010 from carbon monoxide poisoning. The carbon monoxide was so thick it was hard for them to breathe, according to a police report. Shining a flashlight inside the Jeep, police saw the bodies of the little girl and her mother. They found no pulse for either of them. The keys were turned on in the ignition, but the vehicle was no longer running.

Police say her mother was suicidal and often drank too much. She was also intoxicated the day the her and her daughter died. It could not be determined if the deaths where accidental or intentional.

There were 19 calls that day from Nicole’s cell phone to the phone of her father, who was away on business in Taipei. There was one message from the girl on his voicemail, an upset and crying Nicole asking her dad to call. She also sent him a text in all capital letters: “CALL ME IF YOU CAN AND IF YOU CAN’T ANSWER ME AND TEXT ME TOO.”

The Boulder County Department of Human Services had heard concerns before about the family. A caseworker was assigned in August 2001, when Nicole was an infant; the case was closed in February 2003.
