King M. Zurney, 87, of Ford City, died peacefully on Monday August 18, 2014, at his daughter's home in West Kittanning.

He was born January 21, 1927, a son of the late Jacob and Alice Jane (King) Zurney.

Mr. Zurney was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the U.S. Navy. He was in Tokyo on September 2, 1945, during the signing of the surrender terms by the Japanese to the Allied Nations. He served on the USS Wilkes-Barre, and attended many of their reunions. He was an active member of the Ford Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Methodist Men, the Peanut Gang, helped with the pancake dinners, taught Sunday School, and was a lay pastor.

He first worked for Meadow Gold Dairy of Kittanning, and then was employed by and retired from Eljer Plumbingware of Ford City.

He is survived by two sons, Allen (Barbara) Zurney of Cochranton and Raymond (Susan) Zurney of Meadville; one daughter, Carolyn Hope (James) Sobiski of West Kittanning; three sisters, Mary Louise Lang of California, Alice Jane Brown of Walkchalk, and Cora Mae Redding of California; a brother, Bobby Zurney of California; his grandchildren, Robin (Dave) Honadle, Sarah Zurney, Wendi Burchill, Adam Zurney, and Brian Zurney; and his great-grandchildren, Jason Saxon, Brian, Breanna, and Amanda Honadle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Jean Claypool; his second wife, Ruth Ann Hughes; a brother, George Zurney; and a sister, Beulah Ann Zurney.

Friends will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2014, in the WELCH FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2014, at Ford Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Alison Berkey officiating. There will be additional visitation at the church one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Ford City Cemetery.
