OBITUARY

Found Dead Near Sidney
------------
James A. Gregg, a brother of Mrs. George Salter, was found dead on the old Harvey ranch on Grouse creek last evening about nine o'clock by Frank Meadows and another gentleman. The Meadows ranch is opposite the Harvey place, and last evening as Mr. Meadows and his hired man were going toward home they were hailed by a man who asked for help, claiming he was ill. Both gentlemen went to him and after learning his condition proceeded homeward to secure bedding to make the unfortunate stranger as comfortable as they could until medical aid could be secured. When they returned to the cabin they were horrified to find a corpse, the man had died during their absence, presumably throuh exposure.
Coroner Terrill was at once notified and went up, returning early this morning. The coroner will hold an inquest this afternoon.
Gregg came here from Oakland, California, last February and has been making his home on the Salter ranch. At times he was a heavy drinker and during the celebration Mr. Salter was constantly with him to keep him away from whiskey. Yesterday morning he decided to quit the country and was undoubtedly making for Boulder county, having a brother engaged at mining at Nederland. That liquor was the cause of his death seems to be the general opinion of those who knew him. Deceased was about thirty-eight years of age and was minus the left arm and leg caused by an accident a number of years ago. Burial will take place in Steamboat cemetery.
