Alfred Kassab was born in Canada, of Egyptian and Syrian descent. He was in British intelligence during World War II and parachuted behind German lines on six occasions to make contact with the French Resistance. His first wife, a Scottish woman, and their infant child were killed in the bombing of London.

After the war he moved to New York and married Mildred, a widowed mother of two (Robert and Colette).

When Colette and her two children were murdered, the Kassabs stood by their son-in-law Jeffrey MacDonald, who was accused of the crime. However, as they became acquainted with all the facts, Freddy and Mildred became convinced that MacDonald was guilty.

Freddy Kassab's persistence and dedication insured the case moved forward. He loved Colette deeply and considered her his own child.

MacDonald was convicted and sentenced for the murders.
